Internship and Mentorship Programs - Including Kids

Internship/Mentorship Programs

Including Kids, Inc. is an approved practicum site for the University of Houston at Clear Lake’s graduate program in applied behavior analysis. Including Kids offers the opportunity to graduate students to gain experience practicing in an active organization. Several graduate students, for example, from Sam Houston State University have gained experience with our organization. Providing graduate students with this opportunity allows for more professionals who understand autism intimately to flourish and give back to our community.

We have also welcomed students from Atascocita High School and Kingwood High School in the Service Learning program. These students make great peers for adolescents in our various learning programs! The goal of Including Kids is inclusion in mainstream society for children and young adults on the autism spectrum so that they can achieve their full potential and successfully navigate the world. Interacting with typically developing peers, such as those from Atascocita High School and Kingwood High School, in a safe learning environment is extremely beneficial for our adolescents in acquiring certain behavioral and communication skills. Offering service learning programs to typically developing high school students also benefits the whole community as students learn more about autism and how to interact with their peers who are on the spectrum, increasing autism awareness for the entire young community.  This oppurtunity may also inspire young adults in our community to pursue careers in behavior analysis, health, and non-profit organizations.
